Brothers Johnson Biography

The Brothers Johnson first came to the attention of the music industry as part of the band Johnson Three Plus One.  This included George and Louis alongside older brother Tommy and cousin Alex Weir.

The band backed up touring artists such as Bobby Womack and the Supremes.  George and Louis also joined Billy Preston’s backing band and whilst there wrote the song Music Is My Life.

Following their departure from the Billy Preston Band, Quincy Jones hired George and Louis to play on his album Mellow Madness, recording four of the brothers' songs into the bargain. Quincy then produced the Brothers Johnson debut album, Look Out For #1 in 1976 and Right On Time in 1977.  It was Right On Time that was to break the band into the mainstream.

In addition to success with albums and such singles as Strawberry Letter 23 and Stomp, the duo also served as session musicians for a great many artists.  This included Paul McCartney where The Brothers Johnson played on the soundtrack to the film Give My Regards To Broad Street.
