Herman's Hermits Biography
Herman's Hermits were formed in Manchester in 1963. The group had a clean cut image which was emphasised by lead vocalist Peter Noone’s boyish good looks. The band like many of that era originally played R’n’B on the club scene in the U.K., before recording a string of classic pop songs under the management of producer Mickie Most. Herman’s Hermits, really hit the big time with the Gerry Goffin and Carole King song, ‘ I’m Into Something Good’, which reached number one in the U.K . in 1964.
In addition to success in the U.K., they also had many hits in America including, ‘Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter’ and ‘I’m Henry The Eighth I Am’, both of which made number one in the U.S. singles charts. The band also appeared in a number of movies including, ‘When the Boys Meet the Girls’, ‘Hold On’ and ‘Mrs. Brown You’ve Got A Lovely Daughter ‘. Herman’s Hermits also featured in the film ‘Pop Gear’.
The band would go on to have further hits in the U.K . despite Peter Noone leaving for a solo career in late 1970. Continuing without him, Herman’s Hermits are to this day led by sole founder member, Barry Whitwam
