Yehudi Menuhin Biography
Yehudi Menuhin or Baron Menuhin, was a violinist and conductor who is commonly considered one of the twentieth century’s greatest violin virtuosi. He was born in the United States in 1922, but became a citizen of Switzerland in 1970 and of the United Kingdom in 1985 where he spent most of his performing career until his death in 1999.
Yehudi began playing the violin at the age of three and showed substantial talent. He would go on to record and perform some of the most popular classical musical pieces, even working with the likes of Elgar. Yehudi also worked in the mainstream recording with Stephane Grapelli and performing during the intgefrval with Grapelli, for the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest.
Keen to bring on new talent , in 1962 he established the Yehudi Menuhin School in Stoke d'Abernon, Surrey. During the same period, Yehudi established the music program at the Nueva School in Hillsborough, California.
Yehudi Menuhin’s concert performances and recordings have always been immensely popular and continue to be so, still attracting many new admirers worldwide.
